Burgundy’s claims to fame are basically France’s claims to fame: food and wine. And that tracks for a region whose capital is Dijon (yes, the mustard one) and whose red wine helped give a color its name. Bourgogne, as the region is known locally, is the birthplace of boeuf bourguignon, a stew of beef braised in red wine garnished with carrots, mushrooms, and onions. Needless to say, there’s a lot of good food to be had at any of the 32 Michelin-star restaurants in the region. The latest establishment in Burgundy to get Michelin recognition (one star) is Château de Courban, where the menu includes pigeon-and-foie-gras sausage.

The big opening for 2026 in Burgundy is Château La Commaraine. The 12th-century property, set on a 7.41-acre wine estate, has been fully renovated and reimagined as a five-star hotel. Along with a spa and 37 stunning rooms (book the one with the views of the vat room), Château La Commaraine will have a bar in a 14th-century tower, two restaurants, and a winery offering tours and tastings.

Also in early 2026 is the 82nd Saint-Vincent Tournante wine festival, an annual event that celebrates the patron saint of wine growers with parades, concerts, a mass, a banquet, and a lot of wine tastings. The host village rotates each year, and on January 24–25, 2026, the celebrations will take place in Dezize-lès-Maranges. If you can’t make those dates, Burgundy’s calendar is packed with wine-focused festivals throughout the year.

After months of upgrades to the high-speed line between Paris and Dijon, the trip in 2026 should be smoother and faster than before. Travelers can ride direct from Paris Gare de Lyon to Dijon in about 90 minutes.
