- The Amazon TV Original's final installment will launch on April 8
- It teases Homelander's grand masterplan and Billy's counter-offensive
The second and final trailer for The Boys season 5 has been revealed — and it not only reveals Homelander's maniacal masterplan to rule the world, but also the titular team's scheme to stop him.
Almost exactly three months on from the release of The Boys 5's first trailer, the show's latest round of footage teases its final hurrah and will end in typically explosive, ultraviolent, and darkly comedic fashion.
With the Prime Video TV Original's last season set to premiere on April 8, it's high time to learn more about what its plot will entail. Thankfully, said season's last trailer, which you can watch below, comes bearing gifts with some answers.

So, what does it reveal? Well, Homelander's searching for a vial of V1, aka the first-ever Supe-creating serum created by Vought that his father Soldier Boy was given. Homelander appears to force his good-for-nothing dad to help him out, too, though I'm not sure why the incredibly powerful Soldier Boy would take orders from his son when, you know, he didn't do so way back in season 3.
Anyway, Homelander wants to inject himself with some V1, thereby becoming immortal and becoming an unkillable force of nature that'll eventually rule the Earth with an iron fist.
Standing in his way, though, are Billy Butcher and his ragtag group of freedom fighters. And, with the group armed with the last remaining strain of the Supe-killing virus, Butcher wants to use it on the world's superpowered population before it's too late to stop Homelander. Somehow, I can't picture the rest of the group seeing eye-to-eye with their unhinged, turn-on-a-dime-traitor of a leader in Butcher...
The titular ensemble won't be alone in trying to take down Homelander. Indeed, with some of Gen V's student Supes, including the extraordinarily powerful blood manipulator individual Marie Moreau, on their side, the playing field is somewhat leveled. An answer to my biggest question — how do Marie and Gen V's cast fit into this season's story? — continues to elude me in season 5's official trailer.

In late February, Prime Video said it would treat The Boys' fanbase to even more goodies in the near future. At the time, I opined that another full-length trailer was at the top of my Amazon wish-list. Thankfully, Amazon confirmed yesterday (March 4) that a new teaser for The Boys 5 would be released today (March 5), so the wait for its arrival wasn't a lengthy one.
With a little over a month to go (at the time of publication) before The Boys' final season is here, it's time to remind yourself how the chess board looks.
First, read my explainer on The Boys season 4's ending to see where the main show left its ensemble cast. Then, check out my Gen V season 2 ending explained article to find out how The Boys' primary spin-off will impact the latter's fifth installment.
