Windscribe is a well-known player in the VPN space. Most recently, the provider added a Wi-Fi history clearing function to its apps, designed to prevent your movements from being pieced together via stored network logs. It also recently launched a new stealth app to help navigate censorship in regions like Iran and Russia.

Unlike many competitors, Windscribe doesn't offer a multi-year plan. Its one-year plan sits at $5.75 per month ($69 billed annually), which is higher than the entry-level monthly cost of a two-year NordVPN plan.

However, this makes Windscribe's $9 monthly option look quite competitive for short-term use, especially when compared to the other big-name providers.

For those who only need the basics, Windscribe’s "Build-a-Plan" is a unique alternative. You can select specific locations for $1 each (with a $3 monthly minimum), allowing you to create a customized, low-cost solution if you only need access to one or two countries to catch the F1.
