When a woman went to the emergency room (ER) complaining of leg pain, she expected medication and a quick trip home, but Instead, doctors began asking questions that left her confused and alarmed.

TikTok user oujibug shared a video showing herself in a hospital bed where she detailed a surprising medical diagnosis.

The creator said she decided to visit a local ER after leg pain became severe enough that she could no longer sleep.

She explained that she delayed seeking treatment because she worried about the cost and went directly to the ER after finishing work.

User oujibug believed the visit would be simple, telling medical staff her leg hurt and expected to receive a painkiller before going home. Instead doctors began ordering blood tests and scans after hearing her symptoms.

Transported by Ambulance

The creator recalled becoming confused as staff started running more tests including blood work and a CT scan. She was asked by a nurse whether she had diabetes, but she noted she was never diagnosed with it before.

Doctors then told her her blood sugar measured around 700 and her A1C was 14.

According to the American Diabetes Association, A1C levels of 6.5 percent or above are considered to be in the diabetes range.

User oujibug went on to share that the doctor told her he was surprised she had not become unresponsive and that she had walked into the clinic on her own.

She said she was later transported by ambulance to a hospital where she spent two days receiving intravenous fluids, insulin and repeated blood tests.

Her blood sugar eventually dropped to around 200 and doctors told her she would likely be discharged once it fell closer to 150 after diagnosing her with Type 1 diabetes.

Ill patient...

‘Insanity’

The TikTok video prompted more than 2,000 responses from viewers who were stunned by the medical results described in the post.

“A1C 14!!! Sis, you became the most popular person in the place,” one fan wrote, referencing the A1C test used to measure average blood sugar levels over several months.

Another pundit praised the speed of the medical response once the issue became clear: “Can we give kudos to the team that did a quick accurate diagnosis for you and SAVED you?! They took you SERIOUSLY!”

Some viewers living with diabetes focused on the unusually high glucose reading mentioned in the clip.

“As a Type 2 diabetic-700 is insanity. Walking in there and not being escorted in via stretcher is a blessing in itself,” a contributor declared.

Surprise Diagnoses

Medical cases that begin with everyday symptoms sometimes uncover deeper health problems after testing.

Newsweek reported about a mother who noticed her son complaining of unusual symptoms and decided to get a glucose monitor after suspecting it could be Type 1 diabetes.

The mom later learned her son was, “in full DKA,” or Diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a is a serious complication of diabetes.

Another Newsweek story covered a viral TikTok video where a medical student discovered a medical condition after doing a glucose experiment while in class.

The woman was later diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia, a condition that refers to low blood sugar occurring within four hours of eating.

Newsweek has reached out to oujibug for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
