A British acting legend could be the next big name to appear on Celebrity Traitors.

Since hitting screens in 2022, The Traitors has been a massive success for the BBC, with a celebrity special also airing last year.

It featured stars including Sir Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Alan Carr, Paloma Faith and Jonathan Ross, with the finale reaching a massive peak of 12 million.

Soon after the BBC confirmed a second season would be going ahead, which is set to air sometimes this year.

While a line-up is yet to be announced, speculation is rife on which stars could be signing up to appear on the next season.

It’s now been reported that the BBC has approached Hugh Grant to potentially appear.

‘They know landing Hugh would be a huge coup but think he would be a brilliant addition,’ a source told The Sun.

‘Bosses are determined not to get the same tired reality stars who sign up to every series going.’

Hugh, 65, made his feature film acting debut in 1982’s Privileged, going on to star in other movies including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and the Bridget Jones’s Diary trilogy.

Throughout his career he has won a Bafta and Golden Globe and has been nominated for two Emmys. As of 2025, his films have grossed over £2.9billion worldwide.

In 2022, Time Out magazine listed Grant as one of Britain’s 50 greatest actors of all time.

Throughout his career he’s never appeared on a reality show but once said that if he was to take part in one, it would be Strictly Come Dancing.

During an appearance on The Agenda in 2012, he was asked if he’d consider following in MP Nadine Dorries’ footsteps and endure a spell in the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! jungle.

Responding, he said: ‘It probably isn’t the most dignified thing you can do as an MP.’

He then added: ‘I always wanted to be on the dancing one myself. That’s my secret fantasy. That’s out of the bag.’

But when asked about the potential of Hugh appearing on The Traitors, a BBC spokesperson told The Sun: ‘We aren’t commenting on speculation and details for The Celebrity Traitors series two will be announced in due course.’

The show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, 54, will be filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands in May.

Earlier this month, Oasis star Liam Gallagher has suggested he may be appearing in season 2 of Celebrity Traitors.

Replying to a fan on X who wanted to know if he would do it if asked, the 53-year-old simply replied: ‘I’ve been asked.’

Other stars reportedly lined up include Louis Theroux, Cheryl, Jamie Oliver, Amanda Holden and Danny Dyer.

Sir Stephen, who had previously ruled out reality show appearances, previously revealed how he had been brought round.

‘I always promised myself I would never be on a reality show, but I watched the game, and I thought this is the most revealing thing I have ever seen about the human mind

‘It’s vulnerability, it’s fragility, it’s failure. Can we read people? Can we deceive people?

‘It’s a very basic question from high politics to everyday life we ask ourselves, and being in it was a genuine thrill,’ he said on The One Show ahead of the show airing.

However, a few weeks ago Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby claimed she wasn’t allowed to join the cast despite her fervent wish to do so.

‘I would love to do that, but you do know they’ve got a no reality rule. That is a genuine fact,’ she told The Sun.

However, she continued: ‘My agent is on the line and he will confirm. They take no reality stars. A lot of shows have this rule.

‘I’m A Celebrity used to have this rule. But it gets to the point where they’ve obviously run out of big names, so they have to start delving into reality.

‘So, they’ll have this rule for maybe three or four series and then they might have to break the mould a bit. As soon as they do, I will be there with my cloak.’

Metro has contacted the BBC and representatives for Hugh Grant for comment.
